Gaffiero House
Identity / Printed Material
An events venue housed in a converted residence built in the 1930s.
Gaffiero House is a stunning Art Deco listed building located within the 16th Century Venetian defence walls of the city of Nicosia. Designed in the 1930s by Maltese-born architect Joseph Claude Gaffiero, it was originally built as his own residence. Due to its size, style and location, the purpose of the townhouse was changed by the current owners from residential to a modern-day events venue.
The design of the building is a blend of 1930s Maltese architecture and the Art Deco movement. Geometric motifs are featured throughout the house, carved in the sandstone of the exterior walls, etched on the striking ceramic floor tiles, decorated around the wooden door frames and on the bannisters of the grand staircase.
The identity takes inspiration from the design elements of the house and Cassandre’s highly stylized typography of the same era. Through a luxurious yet minimal colour palette of only black and gold, the identity effectively expresses the classical character of the venue in parallel with the timeless elegance of Art Deco.
